Debrecen and Csapókert, Past and Present – A Local History Quiz at Bakcsó Club

On 4 February 2026, Debrecen and Csapókert's history took centre stage at Bakcsó Youth Club's local history quiz, held through the Erasmus+ project ‘Strengthening Active Citizenship among Young People in Csapókert’.

Local Knowledge, Shared Experience

Through playful tasks, participants explored the city and neighbourhood's past, distinctive landmarks, shared memories and present-day values. Teamwork tested their knowledge and started conversations about how we connect with the places where we live.

Learning local history brings community issues closer to participants. Solving tasks together strengthened belonging, curiosity and the understanding that young people can help shape their community.

The evening formed part of the project's thematic Bakcsó Club programme, offering young people in Csapókert a safe, open environment to learn, express their views and connect.

More Active Young People, a Stronger Community – Results of the Csapókert Project

The Erasmus+ project ‘Strengthening Active Citizenship among Young People in Csapókert’ concluded with a final gathering on 12 November 2025. Regular community activities, research and playful learning supported local young people's participation.

Twenty-Two Events, Many Ways to Connect

The project delivered 22 youth participation events: an opening and a closing gathering, plus twenty thematic Bakcsó Evenings. EU quizzes, films and facilitated discussions, public affairs topics and interactive Be Active sessions provided knowledge, experiences and a shared space.

Events reached the planned 156 participants. Research into young people's circumstances and needs in Csapókert received 276 responses, allowing future activities to draw on local experience and views.

Continuing through Bakcsó Youth Club

One of the project's most important outcomes was the establishment of the Bakcsó Youth Club, providing a sustainable community framework where young people can continue meeting, initiating activities, learning from one another and getting involved locally.

Thank you to every participant, volunteer and partner who helped strengthen Csapókert's youth community.

Sustainability through Play – A Green Quiz at Bakcsó Club

On 10 July 2025, Bakcsó Youth Club's green-themed evening explored practical, everyday questions of sustainability. Delivered through ‘Strengthening Active Citizenship among Young People in Csapókert’, the Erasmus+ activity encouraged environmental awareness through play and community learning.

Everyday Decisions, Shared Responsibility

Participants explored familiar situations: lighting and energy use, separating waste, saving water, handling used cooking oil, using lifts and considering meat-free days.

The tasks encouraged discussion rather than a single ‘correct answer’. Participants made arguments, exchanged views and sought solutions they could put into practice in their own lives and communities.

The green quiz highlighted that active citizenship includes caring for our environment. Many small, conscious decisions can create noticeable change at community level, especially when young people encourage one another.

Bakcsó Club Evenings in Debrecen – Building Community and Learning through Fun

Bakcsó Természetjáró, Természetvédő, Kulturális és Szabadidősport Egyesület delivered the Bakcsó Club Evenings in Debrecen through ‘Strengthening Active Citizenship among Young People in Csapókert’, an Erasmus+ project with reference 2024-1-HU01-KA154-YOU-000231435 .

Through varied activities, including film evenings and quizzes, young participants explored the core values of European identity, democracy and Active Citizenship in playful, informal settings. We paid particular attention to cultural diversity across European countries, including the distinctive character of the Benelux countries .

The programme's greatest strength was its ability to build community. Participants gained knowledge, new connections and shared experiences. The welcoming atmosphere helped turn individual interests into a real community.

The project aimed to help young people in Csapókert engage actively and consciously in local and European public life. The Bakcsó Club evenings provided an excellent foundation.

Sport and Community – A Be Active Evening at Bakcsó Youth Club

On 7 November 2024, movement, cooperation and shared experience took centre stage at Bakcsó Youth Club's Be Active evening, part of the Erasmus+ project ‘Strengthening Active Citizenship among Young People in Csapókert’.

A Community in Motion

The interactive programme showed that sport involves shared rules, care, perseverance and mutual support as well as performance. Playful tasks helped participants experience active, inclusive cooperation.

The Be Active theme also created space to discuss healthy lifestyles, regular exercise and local community initiatives young people could join.

The evening supported one of the club's core aims: providing a regular meeting place where young people in Csapókert can discover new experiences, build relationships and shape activities with their own ideas.

Highlights from the Tiszalúc Youth Innovation Forum

The Tiszalúc Youth Innovation Forum took place on 19 October 2024, offering young people and youth professionals in the Taktaköz region opportunities to broaden their knowledge, exchange experiences and learn together.

Participants were welcomed by Dr Koncz Zsófia, State Secretary for Families at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation and the area's Member of Parliament, who highlighted the importance of supporting and educating young people. Siri Norbert, Mayor of Tiszalúc, emphasised the value of such events in smaller communities, where opportunities can be more limited than in cities. Hegedűsné Stion Éva, the association's president, opened the event, recalling that the organisation had been founded four years earlier to support local young people and families with small children through meaningful leisure activities and youth skills development. The forum sought to further that mission.

At the first round-table discussion, young DiscoverEU participants shared experiences from their summer rail journey. The five participants then received Youthpass certificates.

Dr Gaskóné Nagy Erika followed with a presentation on digital child protection, introducing challenges, risks and solutions relevant to parents, teachers and professionals.

After a short lunch break, Hegedűs Imre, the association's project manager, presented the results of the Strengthening Active Citizenship among Young People in Tiszalúc project, highlighting the difficulties encountered and the needs of young people that it sought to address.

The afternoon round table explored positive and negative influences in parent–child relationships. Many questions were answered, although limited time left some topics open for further discussion.

Kovács Péter, President of the National Youth Council, delivered the closing presentation, highlighting regional development opportunities for Hungary's civil society sector.

The Tiszalúc Youth Innovation Forum formed part of ErasmusDays and also served as the closing conference of the Strengthening Active Citizenship among Young People in Tiszalúc project (2022-3-HU01-KA154-YOU-000103109).

Thank you to everyone who attended and shared such positive feedback. We are confident that we will organise the conference again next year: experience has shown how important this opportunity is for the region's young people and youth professionals.

Looking Back at the Fourth Earth Day in Tiszalúc

Each year, Bakcsó Természetjáró, Természetvédő, Kulturális és Szabadidősport Egyesület organises a week of activities around Earth Day. The main in-person event offers workshops and talks for participants.

This year was no exception. On Saturday 20 April 2024, the Petőfi Sándor Cultural Centre and Library in Tiszalúc hosted our event.

Following welcomes from the association's president and the mayor, we presented prizes to the winners of the drawing competition announced in March. A record number of entries was received: the jury assessed around 100 works in three categories.

After the awards, visitors could choose from a wide range of activities. Talks and round-table discussions in the smaller hall explored topics including the green economy and greenwashing. Invited guests discussed sustainable households, while Szebenyi Péter and Király Imre led conversations about reusing garden waste.

In the main hall, visitors could paint bins and canvas bags and make grass heads. KÖSZ – Kisvárosi Önkéntes Szemétszedők Egyesülete offered a range of activities too. A particularly interesting one showed participants how to make useful objects from recycled plastic.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. As Attraction Látványszínház puts it: ‘There was a time when our survival depended on nature. Now nature's survival depends on us.’

A Study Visit to Budapest

On Saturday 9 March 2024, we travelled by coach from central Tiszalúc to our first destination, Budapest's magnificent Parliament Building. Getting to know our fellow travellers on the way created a friendly atmosphere.🚌

At Parliament's visitor centre and museum, we began an unusual experience exploring the working lives of decision-makers past and present, including how parliamentary sessions were conducted. The interior architecture was impressive too, with gilded stucco, walls, grand halls and staircases.

We also saw the Hungarian coronation regalia, a moving experience of national heritage. At the end of the tour, the museum introduced the building's construction and history, including the damage inflicted by past wars. 👑

🏰 Our second stop was the Buda Castle District, with its buildings, monuments, statues and views across the Danube towards Pest.

Our guide was Kovács Péter, President of the National Youth Council. His vivid, enthusiastic accounts of Buda Castle's history left us smiling as we finished our visit.

✨A little tired but still enthusiastic, we headed to Cinema Mystica, the day's final attraction. It introduced an unfamiliar artistic world: AI-generated forms and patterns projected as light across walls, floors and ceilings. The alternative art form prompted reflection, while interactive exhibits added to the discovery.

Dinner offered a fitting end to the day, with time to discuss and reflect on everything we had experienced.

After breakfast on Sunday 10 March 2024, we visited Budapest Airport and the aviation museum. Following strict security procedures, a qualified guide took us behind the scenes. We saw the processes required from landing to take-off, under the same strict rules that keep airport operations safe. Every stage offered something new to discover. I would recommend the experience to everyone and hope to return soon.

Our next stop was Gödöllő, where lunch included an opportunity to meet and talk with the leaders of the local youth organisation. Their enthusiasm and accounts of local young people's lives, activities and the organisation's goals made a strong impression.

We would meet them again later, but first it was time for the Royal Palace of Gödöllő.🏰

The palace's exterior was beautiful, and even more impressive rooms awaited inside. Interactive tasks helped us explore the lives of its former residents, while paintings and sculptures brought their appearance and stories to life.

We Left with Many New Experiences and Plenty of Knowledge.

Our final stop was the local organisation's Youth House, an inclusive community space where young people can develop and learn with and from their peers. In my view, the Gödöllő Youth Council's work could inspire youth organisations throughout Hungary. Keep up the great work!

Our memorable weekend came to an end, but the journey home gave us time to reflect on these fantastic two days.🥳
