In spring 2022, we first heard about DiscoverEU opportunities offering young people European travel and learning through associations. We immediately knew we had to bring this opportunity to Tiszalúc. We could not yet imagine where the journey would lead.
We had clear goals: to involve young people in the association, encourage active participation in events, hear what they wanted for their town and prepare them for international mobility. We expected broader cultural horizons and stronger language skills. The reality exceeded every expectation.
We thought the experience would change their lives, but the scale surprised us. Peti, initially reluctant to join, has since completed a placement in Ireland 🇮🇪 and says he might never have taken that step without this trip. Ádám went on to take an advanced-level English school-leaving exam. Their development is tangible and their memories lasting.

We were also surprised by the association's growing national recognition: invitations to share experience, recommendations to other organisations and, on 22 May 2025, an Erasmus+ Quality Award from the Tempus Public Foundation, the only award in our category. After accepting it, we presented our experience to participants from across Hungary.
In his welcome speech, Czibere Károly, Chair of the Tempus Public Foundation's Board of Trustees, emphasised the social value of every award-winning project. Such projects create opportunities for young people and strengthen communities, including the wider town, as returning participants put their experience to use locally.
