Garden of Generations – May Project Update
Delivered by Bakcsó Természetjáró, Természetvédő, Kulturális és Szabadidősport Egyesület, the Garden of Generations project began in January 2026 with support from the European Solidarity Corps.
The project aims to create a community demonstration garden in Debrecen, offering practical examples of sustainable gardening, opportunities for sharing knowledge across generations and a stronger sense of community.
Work in May
Garden development entered a new phase in May. We first cleared and prepared the site, then laid out seed rows and outdoor growing beds.
Three raised beds were built as key features of the community garden. They were filled in layers: branches and timber formed the base, followed by green waste and topsoil. The first seeds and plants were then introduced.

The garden now includes tomato, pepper and courgette plants, onions and other kitchen-garden crops. A clear labelling system and the prepared seed rows support their growth.
May's Results in Numbers
- 400 m² of Land Prepared
- 3 Raised Beds Completed
- 134 Plants Planted
- 17 Seed Rows Created
- The Next Phase of Community Garden Development Has Begun

Next Steps
The next phase involves ongoing plant care, watering and maintenance, alongside further development of the garden's community functions. We want the Garden of Generations to become a lasting meeting place for local people and an important venue for environmental education.
The project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps.
