About the Project
Original project title: Csapókerti fiatalok aktív állampolgárságának erősítése
The Erasmus+ youth participation project ‘Csapókerti fiatalok aktív állampolgárságának erősítése’ (Strengthening Active Citizenship among Young People in Csapókert) aimed to expand opportunities for young people connected with Csapókert to meet, express their views and participate in community life, while establishing a lasting local youth community.
Background and Aims
The initiative responded to a local shortage of regular opportunities for young people to meet and participate in their neighbourhood. It made active citizenship a practical experience through shared reflection, debate, initiatives, volunteering and dialogue with decision-makers.
Further aims included strengthening European identity, understanding local young people's needs and creating a safe, open community where participants could shape their surroundings through their own ideas.
Activities Delivered
- 22 Community and Youth Events;
- EU quizzes, film screenings, discussions of public affairs and ‘Be Active’ sessions;
- non-formal learning and active citizenship activities;
- meetings and dialogue with local decision-makers;
- a questionnaire study exploring young people's lifestyles, community participation and future outlook in Csapókert;
- the creation of the Bakcsó Youth Club community and an online communication platform.
Research and Findings
The project produced a local youth study based on 276 valid questionnaires. It explored lifestyles and leisure habits, connections with Csapókert, community and civic participation, information habits, European identity and priorities for programmes and development.
Nearly two thirds of respondents, 180 people, currently live in Csapókert. The 19–24 age group was the largest, while 74.6% of respondents were aged 16–29. The findings come from a local, non-representative sample but offer a detailed, useful picture of the views, habits and needs of young people connected with the neighbourhood.
Long-Term Impact
One of the project's most important outcomes was the establishment of the Bakcsó Youth Club. The community, tested methods, communication channels and research findings provide a foundation for continuing local youth work beyond the funding period.
The experience shows that meaningful youth participation requires time, trust, regular opportunities to meet and an open community that welcomes young people's views and initiatives.
