Introducing the Active Citizenship Project

Through discussion, learning and local initiatives, the project encourages young people to take an active role as citizens.

Introducing the Active Citizenship Project

We are pleased to announce the March 2023 launch of the ‘Strengthening Active Citizenship among Young People in Tiszalúc’ project (reference: 2022-3-HU01-KA154-YOU-000103109), delivered by Bakcsó Természetjáró, Természetvédő, Kulturális és Szabadidősport Egyesület with support from the Erasmus+ programme . Running from March 2023 to December 2024, the programme aims to help young people in Tiszalúc participate actively in local life, develop key competences and strengthen their involvement in the community.

The initiative builds on an earlier, successful solidarity project, which demonstrated that young people can contribute valuable ideas and solutions to local issues. The new project will deliver nine major events: an opening conference, Green Day in Tiszalúc, Sports and Health Day, the Young People's Lives in a City mobility programme, Tiszalúci Hal/ÁSZ Day, a youth conference, a charity day, a visit to Parliament and a closing conference.

At the heart of the programme are six thematic working groupscovering education; leisure and health; environmental protection and sustainability; digitalisation and smart community development; social responsibility; and employment and future planning. These groups will identify local issues and develop practical proposals to present to decision-makers at the end of the project.

The project will involve at least 425 participants, including young people, professionals, civil society representatives and local leaders. Particular attention will be given to young people with fewer opportunities, enabling them to access support and experience community participation. Workshops, round-table discussions, interactive sessions and study visits will develop communication, cooperation, organisational and problem-solving skills.

Planned outcomes include a final publication summarising the working groups' activities, good practices and lessons from the events. We will publish it in Hungarian and English so that it is also accessible internationally through the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform.

Over the long term, the programme aims to help participants become informed, active and responsible citizens who can shape their town's future. It is a comprehensive process of learning and community building, intended to leave a lasting mark on community life in Tiszalúc. The launch marks the beginning of an exciting partnership lasting more than a year and a half, offering every young person in Tiszalúc the opportunity to get involved, shape the community and gain new experiences.
