A Study Visit to Budapest

On Saturday 9 March 2024, we travelled by coach from central Tiszalúc to our first destination, Budapest's magnificent Parliament Building. Getting to know our fellow travellers on the way created a friendly atmosphere.🚌

At Parliament's visitor centre and museum, we began an unusual experience exploring the working lives of decision-makers past and present, including how parliamentary sessions were conducted. The interior architecture was impressive too, with gilded stucco, walls, grand halls and staircases.

We also saw the Hungarian coronation regalia, a moving experience of national heritage. At the end of the tour, the museum introduced the building's construction and history, including the damage inflicted by past wars. 👑

🏰 Our second stop was the Buda Castle District, with its buildings, monuments, statues and views across the Danube towards Pest.

Our guide was Kovács Péter, President of the National Youth Council. His vivid, enthusiastic accounts of Buda Castle's history left us smiling as we finished our visit.

✨A little tired but still enthusiastic, we headed to Cinema Mystica, the day's final attraction. It introduced an unfamiliar artistic world: AI-generated forms and patterns projected as light across walls, floors and ceilings. The alternative art form prompted reflection, while interactive exhibits added to the discovery.

Dinner offered a fitting end to the day, with time to discuss and reflect on everything we had experienced.

After breakfast on Sunday 10 March 2024, we visited Budapest Airport and the aviation museum. Following strict security procedures, a qualified guide took us behind the scenes. We saw the processes required from landing to take-off, under the same strict rules that keep airport operations safe. Every stage offered something new to discover. I would recommend the experience to everyone and hope to return soon.

Our next stop was Gödöllő, where lunch included an opportunity to meet and talk with the leaders of the local youth organisation. Their enthusiasm and accounts of local young people's lives, activities and the organisation's goals made a strong impression.

We would meet them again later, but first it was time for the Royal Palace of Gödöllő.🏰

The palace's exterior was beautiful, and even more impressive rooms awaited inside. Interactive tasks helped us explore the lives of its former residents, while paintings and sculptures brought their appearance and stories to life.

We Left with Many New Experiences and Plenty of Knowledge.

Our final stop was the local organisation's Youth House, an inclusive community space where young people can develop and learn with and from their peers. In my view, the Gödöllő Youth Council's work could inspire youth organisations throughout Hungary. Keep up the great work!

Our memorable weekend came to an end, but the journey home gave us time to reflect on these fantastic two days.🥳
